Seasonal Wedding Flowers for A Tipi Reception in Lincolnshire
Growing up as a chorister in Lincoln Cathedral, the Bride followed her dreams to become an opera singer. Living in Germany, she met her match—Finn, a pianist and conductor. After a long engagement, they knew it was time to make it official. Their intimate legal ceremony was held at the Groom’s family home, followed by a grand celebration filled with music at Lincoln Cathedral and a reception in the Walled Garden at Hackthorn Estate.
The colour palette featured a harmonious blend of mid-tones with a bold pop of raspberry, creating a vibrant yet elegant atmosphere. Lush greenery and seasonal, locally grown flowers from the Walled Garden and the wider estate were woven throughout, bringing the outdoors in and perfectly echoing the natural beauty of the venue. The floral arrangements, thoughtfully designed in a naturalistic, garden-inspired style, captured the essence of their Hackthorn Estate wedding in every detail.
The Flowers
The couple chose to fill their reception with flowers, knowing that the grandeur of their cathedral ceremony would speak for itself.
Cathedral Wedding Flowers
Sitting in the heart of Lincoln, among cobbled streets, Lincoln Cathedral is an awe-inspiring space, with towering pillars, magnificent stained glass windows, and intricately carved stonework. It was the perfect setting for this musical celebration of love.
The Bride, holding her bouquet with one hand and her father’s arm with the other, walked down the aisle in a stunning silk gown. The floral design was elegant and textural, with pops of colour that contrasted beautifully with the flowing lines of her dress.
The flower girls held their sweet posies, and the buttonholes were carefully pinned on just in time—after a late train threatened to delay the ceremony.
Bringing the Gardens Indoors with Marquee Flowers
Back at the Walled Garden, the day unfolded under a perfect summer sky. Glasses of fizz greeted guests as they arrived and walked through the garden. An oversized floral arch, made with foliage from the wider Hackthorn Estate, framed the entrance to the tipi, creating a picture-perfect moment for guests.
Inside the tipi, the garden theme continued, with tree branches seemingly growing up the poles, creating archways. Tables were adorned with glass bud vases and maroon candles in brass candlesticks. The colour palette was reflected in every element, from the green patterned napkins to the flowers. In addition to the flowers, the tables were adorned with hundreds of the smallest apples from the orchard in the garden, plus grapes and tomatoes from the greenhouses. Truly blending place, flowers and food to create one experience.

Sustainable Flower Choices with Seasonal Blooms
August weddings offer a bounty of blooms, with dahlias leading the way. Here’s a selection of flowers used to create the perfect summer wedding atmosphere:
- Snapdragons
- Dahlias
- Zinnias
- Annual phlox
- Hydrangea
- Cornflower
- Daucus
Sustainability Considerations
The entire floral design was not only British-grown but entirely Lincolnshire-grown. This was especially important to the Bride as she is from a farming family. This supports local businesses and is more sustainable as there are no air miles and far fewer pesticides and chemicals are used than on imported flowers.
No floral foam was used in the designs, and the only single-use plastic used was cable ties, making the wedding as sustainable as it was beautiful.
